Update on the Johnstown Inclined Plane Rehabilitation Project
Today, CamTran is pleased to announce that the work at the Inclined Plane will resume on December 2nd, 2024.
For safety reasons, CamTran stopped work at the end of November 2023 to allow an independent contractor with experience with Inclined Plane equipment to conduct an investigation resulting from cracks that were discovered in several strands of one of the cables. Although it was ultimately determined that the cable strands cracked due to damage from construction, the investigation also led to the discovery of haul wheels that did not meet the design specifications and would require additional work. The finalized report was reviewed by multiple engineers over the past several months, along with input from PA Rail State Safety Oversight. Following the review, a solution on how best to approach the repairs, as well as an option that would minimize the traffic impacts of Edgehill Drive. CamTran appreciates the community’s patience as the process has taken several months to reach approval due to the complicated nature of the project.
The remaining work is estimated to be completed in 2025. Safety remains our number one priority and CamTran is committed to reopening the Inclined Plane.
