This icon of the Blessed Virgin Mary was chosen for its cultural significance and connection to the heritage of Cambria City. The original icon is of great importance to the Carpatho-Rusyn and Byzantine Catholic people of Hungary. Many immigrants who founded St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church were from the area of Hungary around Mariapocs.

Descendants of those immigrants still live in our neighborhood.
